BoxButton is a mockery of the familiar "put box on button" puzzle game trope. Instead of moving from puzzle to puzzle, the player instead finds themselves solving the same puzzle over and over again each time with an altered set of rules.
BoxButton is a small puzzle game built on the theme of adaptation. It features "one" simple level which repeats upon completion. The catch is that every time you complete the level, its ruleset changes. Each time the player goes through the level they must adapt to the new rules which can range from altered controls to a complete rework of how the game elements function. Where most puzzle games focus on creating concrete rules & game elements applied to a variety of configurations, BoxButton on the other hand flips the script and makes the configuration static and the game elements variable. Through a combination of thinking out of the box and some trial and error, the player can unveil the clever and wacky solutions to each puzzle.
BoxButton was built in 2 days for the Fitchburg State game jam featuring the theme "Adaptive"
